Flasher Diagnosis

Post by Buzz »

Light'n,
I disconnected both resisters and noticed no change in anything. On top of that, I have an electronic flasher unit that was put in by the previous owner.
I'm thinking it must be the ground somewhere...

Next step is to check for a voltage drop (resistance). Go to the right side turn signal light. With a voltmeter, see what voltage you are getting to the right front turn signal bulb. Then go back to the lf bulb and check the voltage to the bulb. If they are the same, you have a ground problem. So, as gouda cheese suggested run a ground wire from the lf light assembly to a good ground, such as the lug up front that grounds the turn signal switch and other items, or to the plate with the flasher assembly on it. If the voltage is much less then follow that wire back to the turn signal switch and check the voltage there. If the voltage is good, then the wire to the assembly is bad, if the voltage out of the switch is bad, then you most likely have a bad turn signal switch contact (expensive replacement)

Keep us informed.

Flasher Diagnosis

No power at the light. Followed it up the LOOSE MOLEX under the panel and its working now. You know, I'm sure I checked that same thing a couple weeks ago when I first posted my question and you and everyone else replied. At that time I was getting some power down there - just a little bounce on the volt meter. So, I kept looking for a ground problem. I guess driving and camping since then finally got it loose enough to go dead and with your instructions I found it right away. I also think those resistors were installed before the current electronic flasher unit and he never got around to removing them. I have, among the spare parts that came with the truck, an original flasher in the SAV box that the electronic replacement was shipped in.
Thanks for taking the time to reply and help me out. Its good to have that signal working again. - Buzz
