No, it is a lean burn/lack of oil, etc .
I see this all the time and have very good success with my piston build/clearances.
I have proven specs for a few different ratio's and can bore any size needed.
Most use 8.5:1 between 93-95mm bore, but can go as large as 96mm(only as a last salvage attempt).
I try to keep the bore around 2.6L with the 8.5:1 pistons and high torque cam.
Makes for a dependable improvement/upgrade and leaves room (thickness)for future serviceing.
