I bought one net, 6.5' X 6.5' if I remember. It was enough to make the 2 sides and the rear with enough left over to make the loops for fastening.

It is working out really well.

Thanks.

Since I have an old top i was thinking of using the hooks off the back section and integrating them into the modification.
Additionally, I was thinking of somehow putting a long rod along the bottom edge of the side panels and attaching the rubber cord to that as to even out the pull of the cords against the net.

The old hooks would probably work out fine and look good too.

I also considered a long rod for the same reason but was concerned that after rolling up the side netting the rod would slide out while traveling. I'm still thinking of it and maybe sewing in a pocket at each end to hold the rod. I've never rolled the sides up since installing them so I may just put in a rod anyway.

A 3/8" stainless 6' rod at McMaster is about $17. Possibly aluminum (about $12) would work also?

Thank you Jim! My dog is more of a licker than a biter - of course anyone approaching the truck wouldn't know that. :)

I was looking at this same thread just before the last series of posts. I counted the net "squares" on your pictures and the Sportsmanguide.com pictures...
The net, out of the box, is 10x10, while you used 11x3 per side + 8x3 in the rear, so I assume you did quite a bit of cutting and sewing...

Nonetheless, great idea! Your Viszla (if I'm correct on your dog's breed) seems to enjoy it. And I may well take it as reference to the fact that other tan colored dogs like my Rhodesian Ridgebacks could enjoy a similar setup on my truck :D

Jan,
Actually the net I got from them was 11 squares by 11 squares. I just opened up the second one I haven't used yet and it also is 11X11. On the far left front of the Sportsman Guide photo I think one of the squares is folded and hidden by the adjacent one.
I did have to do some cutting but thankfully no sewing. For someone who can sew (I can't  ) they could eliminate some of the bolts, etc. I used and just sew the loops over.
Yes, mine is a Vizsla and he thinks that back area is all his. I'm sure your Rhodesian Ridgebacks would enjoy it too!

11x11... even better than 10x10! I see where I missed one now, on the left of the picture.

Back to my squared paper pad... :D
