Pass on a 712, and go for a 716 (4x4) or a 718 (6x6). The diesel Pinzes are only 8" longer than a gas Pinzes with the same size cargo area ( cab area was lengthen for the diesel) . The diesel isn't a problem in cold weather if you're use to them. The 710/12 have a 80l fuel tank where the 716/18s have either 145l or 120l tank, depending if it has side doors ( K models). If that isn't enough fuel, the factory has fitted matching saddle tank to the other side of the truck. Payload capacity of the 716 is up to 3100 lbs (1400kg) and the 718 is up 5200 lbs (2400kg). Include the comforts of power steering, 4 (or 6) wheel disc brakes, an modern heating system, real automotive seats and the possibility to get an auto trans.

His comparisons to the "Red Bull" 712 is without knowledge that those trucks had a 716 TD trans AND a transfer case from a 710 put in them, that made gearing outragously high. Plus they are unbelieveably heavy... I drove one years ago before the diesel conversion.... they were made as an advertising promotion for their drinks.
The diesel Pinzgauers are a completely different truck
The main gearbox is geared higher, BUT the transfer case is geared way lower and wider spaced ( and it is not interchangeable with one in a 710/12). The differences are numerous between the 710/12s and the 716/18s

The VW diesel used in the 716/18 was the same diesel Volvo was using during the '80s and '90s..... The stock Pinz gas motor was designed and made by SDP for the Pinz, and has nothing to do with Volvo.The 716 and 718 model Pinzgauers had VW diesels in them, but they cannot legally be imported for several more years. The stock motor is an I-4 2.5l air cooled gasser from Volvo. Sounds a lot like a VW bug.

After driving lots of both, I agree. The difference is night and day. One of these days when I get paid what I should be getting....

I was looking how much is diesel Pinzgauer...and it is definitely our of my reach
I can not afford spend $25k or even more.
My budget will be max $10k to buy a car and then I will have some money left for modifications. So I will have to make some compromise what model I will buy.

.. I’ve have had my 716 for over 9 years and sourcing parts hasn’t been a problem…. And pricing is no different than buying for a Porsche 356 to a 911 Carerra.. I had a Series Land Rover back in the early 80’s and sourcing parts then was no different, all before the web…. Then the ‘90s came and I had a Defender…. Which again is like comparing a 710 to a 716, and again the vehicles are completely different, and parts are comparatively more expensive.
And other than for nostalgia purposes, there is no reason to go backward.

Not knowing the pricing in your country, or region, $10k would only get you a modest 710M... with a lot of looking and waiting in the US.
