Does the vacuum line get pulled when checking timing, or does it stay on?
By now you should know the Pinz does not have a vacuum advance/retard on it....like in brain surgury, it's just there to remove the moisture

The vacuum line is only for removing moisture from the dist. cap so it stays connected.
When I've adjusted timing using an external battery (motor cycle, lawnmower, etc.), per previous posts I've connected the negative terminal of the external battery to the Pinz chassis and the timing light negative lead to the Pinz chassis also. If I'm remembering correctly these were instructions per Jim L. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but this works well for me.
edit: (Sorry Dave, I didn't see your post!)

Ya, I discovered that earlier

....just making sure. I am doing a fair amount of reading on vehicle timing and the Pinz manuals I have aren't the clearest.

Well, thanks for the kick Dave

!
I redid the timing today with a TACH equipped timing light and the truck was running at about 1150RPM at idle....warm. I knocked it down to 940 and I was able to keep it at 3DEG BTDC. There was a slight hesitation this morning when starting from a dead stop, which is now gone after the adjustment. I have noticed, even this morning, that acceleration through the gears is much smoother and stronger with the civi setup.

After 5 years of Ural ownership, I can tell you the difference between 750 and 900....absolutely.
And after 4 months of Pinz ownership,I guess 1150 rpms sound like 900

For what it's worth, I just got done with a full tune up and found 12 BTDC worked best for me. And yes, it's a Petronix ignition.

Depends on your altitude. Here at 5280 feet 6 to 8 works great.
