It is kind of funny this general topic came up. I started to research the military plastic jerry cans for my SS build, and the only thing that held true was the difference of the fuel and water, and there were several different styles of the "Euro" cans... British, German and French, most noteably come to mind. French can have a different cap and spout ( and supposedly unobtainium). The others are somewhat similar and "somewhat" work interchangably . Like most things, you need to be careful of manufacturer.

In one older article, the writer said he had been unable to find in any law where the cans must be red. Since CARB compliant seems to be the new EPA standard, it could have been changed. But this is interesting reading..

My metal water can is blue with three handles. My German green plastic water cans say Trinkwaser. My Nato cans are green and are able to hold many types of fuel according to the little
label on the side of the spout. I have two red petrol cans from the US. I have three brown plastic water cans from the US...hmmmmmm.

The world is varied and interesting...enjoy it.

Has anyone figured out an easy way to adapt the Pinz NATO spout for use in USA autos? My Pinz spout fits the Pinz and diesel applications just fine, but would
be nice to be able to use the NATO cans for regular car (3/4") filling

I know there are Chinese nozzles on ebay, Sportsman's Guide and local surplus stores for these cans, but they are pretty tinny and flimsy. The heavier flexible one I found on ebay fits the auto filler, but has no breather tube.
Would be nice if there were an easy conversion for the spout we already have.

if you read the link in Dave's post and the post where I mentioned what I use, the cans work on everything even my lawn mower. A simple jerk tube or siphon hose works great. the 1/2" version empties the cans very quickly and the 3/8ths" versions control the flow for smaller applications, like the garden equipment.
