Perhaps a more user friendly picture would be a help and call it a camper

weird, I called up and said "I need to see if you can insure a 1975 volvo c304 truck". and they said "Ok". I responded with "I just want to let you know, this is a 6x6 truck", "Thats fine, so long as it's not on our list of prohibited vehicles".sixbennetts wrote:Well, I'd like to know just how you went about this, Doccers. I just called their 800 number and was practically laughed off the phone!Doccers wrote:Just again, I had Geico insure my 304, I even mentioned it was a military vehicle, they said no problem. Just to say it.
I never said the word, "truck".
I never said the word, "military".
I never said the word, "Tgb11".
I said it was a C303 civilian vehicle.
Once they Google a picture of it, they're gone like a fart in the wind........
Our local Allstate agent, who insures all our family cars, is, "looking into it", with other underwriters for us.
I'm getting nervous here.
David Dunn wrote:When you're cold calling an insurance company for a quote, it is all about the attitude of the person on the other end.. if they're a hawk or dove... and if they really give a damn... no is a quick easy answer to get rid of someone, and doesn't require any research... your own personal agent has a vested interest... if they don't want to work for you, you'll take your business to someone that will.
IF the person on the other end has no idea of what you're talking about, you need to steer them toward pics and sites that put the vehicle in "favorable light" and not a doomsday vehicle....email them pics.
For me, Auto Club has bent over backwards and went as far as to insure a Supacat ( it also helped that I've been with them so long my first dinosaur had a AAA decal on it's tail). Hagerty's people have always been helpful towards me too, and are apologetic when they can't help. But I have long relationship with them and whenever I call, they pull up the folder of all my vehicles I've had, have or submitted to them and they get sidetracked
... and they drag the call center people around them into it

Try to keep the conversation upbeat, where they want to help you.On cold calls, this is a case where you need them, and try to convince them that it isn't anything out of the ordinary..... " what's so unusual about a Supacat?"![]()
