Oh yeah, approach angle is yet another thing I'm obsessive about.

I think the pic explains the thinking behind the design. The cable's thimble could be stored differently so don't let that affect the impression of the angle too much.
Yes the previous owner had the roof "repaired" and the shop sprayed the roof to, I assume, enhance water resistance and repel future rust. The roof was about the only real weak point on this 710K as it had some mild rust issues in the past.
And there's the cargo area. I added a little trim piece to the edge of the mat. The mat is easily removable so you can dry out the area under it, just as the mid-section mat is. The shop kept wanting to glue it down but that is one of the worst things you can do on a 4x4 as it will promote rust eventually. The material is really dense so it lays just fine without the need for additional securing.

That winch/mount looks so seriously cool that I just added it to my wish list. And the roof rack looks awesome. Don't really need a rack even though I haven't found an adequate trailer yet, but would love a sturdy viewing platform with a ladder just like that one. Mine will have a wooden deck for the cooling effect of the double roof, and will probably need to be detached occasionally for cleaning the roof.

Vince,
That is a VERY nicely designed and thought out winch mount.
Thanks for side shot!
Interior of that Pinz is sweet too!

Thanks for the good words Vince. I do build them as requested. They range from $385 to $650 depending on the details of the hoisting rings, D rings, or shackle mount variations. Vince, do you have a listing for that anchor point you mounted below the winch. I like that one.
I also featured This truck on the front of my Facebook page.

Andre, what would the mount in the photo cost, roughly?

Andre, why not just add another gusset and have the hole made to accept a shackle. Seems it would be more cost effective then buying a specific piece and then the hardware to bolt it in. Of course I am sure you have heard this many times when building from bumpers "can you leave me access to the front pin?". Never understood the need to access the front pin if you had a good attachment point like the one in the photo or other as part of the bumper.

I purchased my bumper from EI and had a weld shop cut a hole and weld in plates to keep out trail crud.
Allows me to use the pin.

If there is already a sturdy tie point, centered on the truck, reasonably practical to use with the removeable pin, I guess just having a hole in the bumper / winch mount that allows to use it is the simplest approach.
I am sure the shackle mount on Vince's truck is very practical and sturdy, and probably slightly easier to access than the pin, but I would personally prefer not to add stuff on my truck if Steyr Puch already took care of it...

Why...to pull my stuck a$$ truck up over the rock I am hung up on. Never been stuck? You haven't tried hard enough.

But they added a winch mount and winch that styer did not see a need for.

been stuck twice, once required a nine yard front loader to lift me by my recovery points (which I added to Tlos bumper) and the other using same shackle points to attach clevises and then pull up the rest of the waterfall. In neither case did I ever feel that cutting up the front bumper to allow access to the tow pin was necessary.
If you were to daisy chain the trucks for towing I could see using the front pin but since no one thinks flat towing is an option (even though styer did) there is no real use for the pin.

Well it's my point...! Steyr did not install a winch, but they installed a tow pin already.
Now nothing prevents you from adding shackle mounts or D-rings on either side of the pin (there was another Fat Fab winch mount like this for sale by Andre not long ago).

As I reread my posts I realize some might take them as aggressive. That is by far not my intent. I am just trying to understand the obsession with the front pin. I have not yet seen anyone tow there pinz down the highway using the front pin. Once modification starts it is time to give up on some of the original design features if they can be improved upon. There is absolutely nothing wrong with leaving the pinz in its stock configuration if it meets your needs. It is when additions are put on the vehicle that I feel it is time to upgrade to a more robust design and give up on some of the features that serve little to no purpose. EI's, Fat Fabs, and Tim's bumpers are well built and have the recovery points needed making the front pin useless. I just don't get the need to have access to it once you head down the modification road. I left out Tlos as he does not have recovery points or access to the front pin.

That pin is great but when a winch is added in the way that this one was, I strongly believe the shackle mount you see here works better because of the easy access and purpose built design. You can very quickly put a 3/4 shackle on it and rig up a number of possibilities. The Anchor Shackle is the base ingredient of any 4x4 recovery operation and I prefer my rigs be able to accept them quickly, front or rear, but that's me.
