That way if water does get into the cups, you wont be able to see it until it leaves a rust trail.

That looks like a Fernco plumbing pipe adapter. Home Depot and others carry them:

You'd just need to find the appropriate size.
I think they would trap too much water and lead to rust-out.

Just knowing it is not a true vehicle part and can be gotten at any plumbing store is a good indicator of the possibilities. Going to have to
make a split boot kind of thing anyway.
