Always wanted a LR type safari roof for my Pinz. Those really keep the inside of the truck cooler in hot weather. Maybe Andre should make and offer them for sale.

What made them cooler? What kind of material where they made of? What would they be worth to you?

Check out the LR in the first post. There is a picture of it on the LR.
It's metal about 1/2 to 3/4 inch above the vehicle roof. creates an air space between the safari roof and the vehicle. Usually white to reflect.
Only work on the K model pinz

Andre
Tropical or safari roofs are basically a 2nd roof skin about an inch above the vehicle’s roof mounted with Bakelite or another isolator to avoid radiated heat transferring from the tropical roof to the vehicles roof. The movement of the vehicle cause the air between the roofs to be constantly exchanged and keep the inner roof to air temperature and to not superheat. In the Series LRs, they may or may not have vents on the vehicles roof to direct air into the vehicles. I’ve seen both, my old S3 did not have the vents.

Then with my wood slated roof rack, it should create enough shade to act similarly to the safari top. Those without the roof rack and gear to act as a shade, will cook like a solar oven.

If any of you have not seen Dreadnaught's videos of his trucks and his beautiful spot in Poland check them out. Beautiful! (A very cool little 250 mz motorcycle too!) The directions are on the last page.

The Safari top does have the vents. It gives very good air flow. The only problem is the wasps like to nest between the layers so I regularly have to blast them with brake cleaner (The best cheap wasp killer!)

Cheers, Clive

A metal top does not work for my M so I made an insulated top from some canvas and some foil backed bubble wrap.
It goes between the original top and the open weave metal I put on the roof supports. Keeps it cool even in the desert.
Also keeps the top from flapping in the wind. Cost was about $50. I have had it on for three years now and no issues.

I like that rack design a lot for many reasons:
- it does not add any width to truck
- rear ladder looks like it could be stock as it integrates well with the rear bumpers and the angle of the roll bar
- surface decking provides shade and will take snow load if necessary
- mounts at front to existing points

only thing I am not sure about are the 2 front legs on each side, how do they work? Are they mounted through the cover?

Yeah that is it. When I was a photographer I was always on the lookout for a tree or bush growing out of someone's head that I was taking a photo of.
Looks real silly and knocks the gloss out of being called a professional.

It is a god looking rack. Sort of would like to have one myself but could not get into the garage then. As it is I have 1/2 inch clearance. Yes I did put smaller tires on to get in.

That's why I have my head pruned before I have any portraits taken.
But bushes make it look like I have more hair :|
