Quick video:
http://youtu.be/qWnqkrZw0B0

I put $135 of diesel at 4.22/gal to fill it but for got to write my mileage on the slip. I think it was 5,787 and I'm now over 6,000(truck is parked at a friends garage right now and I haven't filled it back up) I'm cringing a little as I think it will be a bit more to fill it this time. I was actually surprised that GL left a bit of fuel in it I have heard that some sites siphon it out .

It was surprisingly a very enjoyable ride wish I would have brought an ipod but 5 hours driving that truck was not to strenuous. Definitely not like I remember driving a deuce and half from dahlonega, GA to Ft Benning and back was in the early nineties.

I was noticing during the video that with the cab tilted, the grille looked real close to the bumper.
Check the condition of the upper bushing at the pivots.(fig 191 item 17 of the parts manual). They disintegrate and will destroy the grille into the bumper during the cab tilt. The original grilles are not available and the steel replacement have been difficult to find ( look at the FDT).

Did the CTIS function correctly? A single solid light or all 5 flashing (fault warning)...no matter what anyone might say, it is a good system

CTIS functioned fine single light on whichever mode I selected. When I switched to sand it started to deflate and then when I switched it back to road it inflated back up. Wish my Pinz had that??? Going to go over it a bit more today and will check out the bushings.

I'd trade this for the war pig anytime I like the LVAD platform with the option to drive topless. This thing is like the war Pig with a top hat on at just under 12' tall.

I’m glad you didn’t have any error flashes on the CTIS. Most the time they’re due to air leak from the truck sitting for a while, and putting the system into error and shutting it down.
Tap the run flat button once and it will put it into checking the system every 15 seconds ( instead of 15 minutes). It will return to normal mode after 10 minutes.
It is a marvelous system and no air pressure in the system between test intervals. It is nothing like the old HMMWV CTIS.

Definitely check the rubber bushings! To put it simply, have you ever wondered why so many FMTVs are missing grilles?

The LVADs didn’t have the option (or really ability) to run topless. It was strictly to be able to get the truck into the plane on the skid to push it out of the plane for air drop. The top was removed and stored in the bed (think Jeep ‘freedom panels’) and the all the upper side, door and windshield portions folded down (back panel folded inside the truck). Special Forces unbolted everything from them ( and for the records, the War Pigs weren’t M1078s, but M1081s (or M1093s) as all the references say).

The box is wicked nice with real opening windows and sliding blackout covers close it up. May take the box off and mount it to a trailer.

WOW.. I knew it was bigger but not that much. You wont fit one of those down any trails around here but it would make a awesome camper.

I love it ! Everyone says the same thing about photos of them
In person, the phrase is a bit different:
“ I knew it was big, but that thing is huge!”

To give another perspective, I was in GG when I came along side a convoy of LMTVs and looked out the passenger’s window to see the door handle of a M1078

BTW the top of the bumper is 47” from the ground

Oh Sean, I looked it up, the FDT still has 4k lbs on you.

There are now 3 members and 1 supplier here with FMTVs… getting closer to get Vince to open FMTV section :P

Yeah Sean, you don't need the Pinz, you can use 2 compact parking spaces at the mall instead of one, and think of all the extra space in the 1079 for Xmas presents 8) ...I take XL.

Just use ramps to put the Pinz in the back of the SS
