Woah! That plastic windshield wiper gear is $116! YIKES!

The wiper motor has a weak point; this es the culprit:
it often suffers from loss of teeth. if you hear the motor spinning, but the lever does not move; you know the reason...
I linked the pic to an aftermarket shop in Switzland, where i bought the gear from (
http://www.pinzgauer-techshop.ch); it is not available as original spare part.
Maybe Scott ( Expedition Imports) or SAV have it, too

Welcome to the reality world of the Pinz.
Wait until you find an expensive part.

I got one from Dennis Williams back in the day for $45 IIRC, and thought that was a lot.
No, he doesn't have any more. Sorry.

Buy a Dremel 3-D printer and make one for about double the price
Then make a bunch and pay for your printer

I do have a 3D printer... If I could get my hands on a good condition gear to dimension, I can print one. I can't hold super tight tolerances but it would be super cheap!

So the question is do I buy the $100 part or pony up a few hundred for an upgrade ...? Hmmmmm.....

Well the wiper motor retrofit (which I just got word is back in stock) is a while new motor assembly, much more reliable, and roughly the same cost as the gear.

Sounds like a better plan.

just don't toss the old unit out, it maybe useful to someone for parts that wants to retain the original look. as a side I have never understood why the wipers were not mounted at the top of the windshield.

Original wiper motor on ebay for BIN $115 + shipping
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Steyr-Puch-Pinz ... SS:CA:1120
But it could have a stripped gear too (ad does say working).

Plus no telling the condition of the brushes and other moving parts. Unless you run your fuel cutoff solenoids on a different circuit, it doesn't seem worth the gamble to me. Dying pulling on the highway sucked. Knowing how to keep it alive though and being more prepared for that failure really makes the next time not as scary. Still would like to avoid it altogether.
That being said, I will still probably hang on to my original just for fun. In box. Somewhere in the garage.

The eBay one is in Croatia - as-is and no guarantee, return or warranty. Plus shipping. My spidey senses are tingling. Lol.
I ordered the upgrade kit from SAV -- due in here tomorrow (and that's regular ground FedEx). Will advise how the install goes.

Fellow Pinz owner.......someone already mentioned it, but before you drive it in anger....lose those crazy bias belted Maloya tyres......they are not as some people have in the past put it 'interesting' they are downright dangerous!!! See/feel your vehicle transformed before you very eyes, just change out the tyres and make it twice as safe and driveable.......I could not believe the difference when I first changed to Radials and I went to skinny Goodyear 7.5-Rx16 G90s. I'm sure others have had even better results with more high tech radial tyres. I,m sure you will find a buyer for the Maloyas among the serious rock crawler community...it is about all they are really good for.

Thanks for the suggestion. The old Maloyas are long gone. See my thread in the Tires section. I put on some larger BFG KM2's and they are awesome!
