G'Day Dennis,
As I've mentioned before while there were a lot of good US comedies in the "early days" (somebody mentioned "F Troop".....now that was a good show), in Aus, you couldn't beat the British Classics (and a few Aussie ones

)
Dad's Army
Are you Being Served
Please Sir
On the Buses
Love Thy Neighbour
Remember those Dennis?

Peter Mate,
Yes I remember them, and Dad's Army had to be my 60's favourite.
Coming on at about 7.00pm on a Saturday Evening as "the Old Lady" known as our dear old Mum (deceased) would be making steak and chips, we boys watched all that stupidity and looked at our now late dad for a reality check; Was it really like that in the war dad.?
Of course as a past regular soldier (paratrooper 6th Airborne) he thought the Home Guard was a bloody waste of time, but the program certainly made us split our sides with laughter.
Who was your favourite character?
Mine had to be the Fire Warden who was always so serious and got whacked in some way by the antics of those main three being the CO Mr Main Warring, the sergeant,and his nephew, (oh you stupid boy!)
I still like to watch "Keeping up appearances" , and do you get that down under? If you do her (star played by Elizabeth Rutlidge) trip on the QE2 is the one to watch.
My all time favourite still has to be Faulty Towers or Farty Towels or whatever the Beeb put on the sign at the start of the show. That's really a lunatic Brit comedy, has to be the best yet and brings out the best in our quirky national persona.

Ok who forgot to mention Commander Cody, and don't forget the Superman series, and the ever loveably speedracer and doktari, those were some good TV.....lol I also hear one of our all time favorites is comming back, "The Mutual Of Omaha's Wild Kingdom" sadly with out Marlin Perkins, not sure about Jim though.
