Hey guys.

I am going to check out my windscreen today and see if it is laminated or tempered, but I was wondering if you have to disassemble the frame, remove the canvas or lower the windscreen to get at the glass? Any issues with rusty frames not going back together or bolts stripping? I had the windscreen on my Iltis replaced because it was damaged by a Speedy Auto Glass guy who is also an Iltis owner. He used the green tinted glass, which was a nice improvement.

If you go by a glass replacement shop, they should be able to quickly tell you which type you have.

Read the label on the glass... they'll be one in one of the corners... if not, use your fingers to peel back the gasket at some point and see if you can see 2 pieces of glass... or possibly the edge of the glass looks like cigerette smoke (yellowish brown).

Gotta love the Swiss!! Looks like my windscreen is a Swiss Laminate job. Phew!

The Swiss will say "LAMI" ... 'secur' or anything like that is tempered...only the early Swiss Pinzes usually had tempered...
I should update the thread on glass with pics of some of the telltale signs of tempered glass, and lami.... other than breakage

Mine says "Swiss LAMEX" then "Saftety Laminate," or something to that effect.

I was quite amazed when I prepared my old tempered windshield for disposal. One sharp rap with a ball peen hammer and the windshield was reduced to shards with no piece bigger than a half inch square.

I’m truly glad I listened to David’s advice and went with his advice to replace that accident looking to happen.

It would have been more fun for you to lean it up against a wall and hit it with a hammer... it makes a pretty mosaic when it breaks, and before it crumbles.
In a moving vehicle, those pieces make a IED into your face...

Tempered glass can surprise you sometimes. I've had pieces I've thrown a hammer at, and it bounced back as me, and another time, just carrying it, it exploded ( worked with a guy that needed 13 stitches from one breaking that way). The funny thing was we were working at a hospital when it happen.
