Wow! What scenery. I'm very jealous.
I can certainly understand your enthusiasm for your truck with that as a playground.

I hear that!!audiocontr wrote:Such irony that there is no winch.
The truck had a front & rear winch back in it's trophy days. The rear was mounted using a receiver though, using a quick connect for the electrics.
I just don't feel I need a winch other than for nostalgia and the cool factor. I almost always go out with buddies and don't take this truck in super deep mud like I did 9yrs ago when it was new to me.

Re: The Warn Pinzgauer
Tore out the t-case drive flange & input housing this evening. Super easy! I used a puller on the drive flange but it really wasn't pressed on much, came off very easy. Small groves in the flange where the seals ride. A common thing on old 4wds from what I have seen in the last 20yrs or so of working on trucks. I will either sand it back with some 800+grit or replace the flange.
Dog house on the trans for the shifter also came off. Also very easy to do once I pulled the trans cover in the bed.
All parts are soaking to clean them up and in a day or two will go back in. I had the treadwall bed liner out 9yrs ago when I replaced the clutch. I was curious as to the condition of the bed under it and very happy to see it is in great shape other than a couple small spots of some surface rust.
My buddies I went out with yesterday followed me to the trail. We drove a paved road through a canyon along a river to the trail. Very windy road and they couldn't believe how good the Pinz looked in the curves. They said it looked like the truck was on rails, zero body roll. I said, ya that is how it feels driving it too!
Cheers

Re: The Warn Pinzgauer
hey, I was wondering if anybody can translate this or some of it!? This is the build log on the truck from 1994....

And a cool picture of Vince Colbey and the Warn Pinz in the 90's!

BTW, I watched the Warn video of the Trans Trophy last night for the first time in nearly 9yrs. Old school stuff but still cool!

Can't help with translation but that is cool documentation to have!
Google Translate may help you a bit?
It would be cool to digitize that Video and put it on YouTube - hint hint (ps I could help)
EDIT:
I played with Google Translate:
Der Landeshauptmann von Salzberg genhmigt gem. 31 in Verb. mit 33 KFG 1967 i.d.g.F., das auf Seite 3 beschriebene und dargestellte Fahrzeug, unter den im Punkt 2 angeführten Bedingungen.
2. Bedingung
2.1 Die Genehmigung ist nur gültig, wenn das Fahrzeug unter den auf Seite 2 angeführten Auflagen zugelassen wurde.
is roughly:
The Governor of destination authorizes Salzberg acc. 31st in connect with KFG 33 as amended in 1967, which described and illustrated on page 3 vehicle, under the conditions stated in point 2
2 condition
2.1 The approval is only valid if the vehicle was registered under the requirements listed on Page 2.

Re: The Warn Pinzgauer
Hey thanks for that! I was thinking of doing the same but don't seem to have the time to plug all the Austrian into google translate.
I just purchased over $1500 in parts for the truck tonight. A short list;
-x2 one piece axle boots, decided to do all 4 rears
-x2 new limiting straps for the front, they are showing their age
-exhaust manifold gaskets & centering rings, #1 seems to be leaking so changing all four
-bunch of new fill plugs, drain plugs and copper rings
-trans access cover, mine has got rot holes in it which bugs me
-f&r crank shaft seals, just a small weep on them but I don't like it
-RHS window channel and new window bumps for both doors
-all new fuel hose and various other engine bay hoses
-swivel (I call it the knuckle) seals, believe I replaced these 9yrs ago but have a small weep on one side, so new seals it is!
-bushings and remaining items I need for trans dog house rebuild
I also bought a new 33" Bogger tire. The fronts are getting beat down so I am using the spare (never been on the ground) plus the new tire for two new fronts. I will use the best current front as a spare. I also purchased a hydraulic ram kit from Harbor Freight for doing the rear axle boots.
If I can get the Pinz in order quickly, we will be taking it on the Morrison Jeep Trail Labor Day weekend.
Cheers

Re: The Warn Pinzgauer
Pretty serious Pinz R&R going on last two weeks.
New exhaust manifold gaskets and centering rings. Some idiot had hard mounted the exhaust in front of the flex pipe, this is why I believe the gaskets were toast. At least two of them were totally wasted. All better now!
Bought a new Bogger for the front, so now have two new boggers mounted up, looks killer!
Trans dog house all rebuilt and re-installed.
T-case leaks repaired, or I hope. As mentioned before some grooves one the drive flange but I think I got it all fixed.
Fuel tank removed, sand blasted and painted. New gaskets and hoses on the whole thing. Inside the tank looks like new which I was pretty happy to see. All hoses and gaskets new.
Got my hydraulic ram, makes splitting the axle a breeze! Best $110 I ever spent! One is off right now due to a super seized shock/limiting strap bolt. Felt I needed to remove it anyways since I need to replace the boots. However this bolt is seriously seized. We put the assembly in a 20-ton press and broke the cheapo (IE made in China) arbors trying to press the bolt out. Snapped both of them in half, heh. Soaking the bolt now in charcoal lighter fluid (supposed trick) and making a new arbor specifically for this bolt. See what happens tomorrow! Planning to install all four new rear axle boots tomorrow. Again, easy job with the ram.
New oil breather hoses on the engine, some gaskets and o-rings. Carbs boots, painted air intake, ect ect.
Two new limiting straps installed on the front, looks sweet.
Found one front brake drum is trashed. Springs had broken and ruined it. Got all the parts showing up tomorrow to rebuild it. Rest of the brakes look like new.
New trans access cover painted black and ready to install.
Hoping I can finish it all up tomorrow so we can go run the Morrison Jeep Trail. If not, will just do a local trail here on Saturday or Sunday.
Cheers

Re: The Warn Pinzgauer
Lot's of work done to the truck the last two weeks. Finished up on Saturday so took it out for some fun...

Got the seized bolt for the shock-limiting strap pressed out. 20-ton press wouldn't do it though, had to use a 100-ton press and we put about 50-ton on the bolt! None of the other bolts in the rear were seized. Replaced the seriously seized one and another one that was slightly bent. All four rears were heavily coated with anti-seize.
All four rear axle boots are installed. So far they seem good. Again, easy job with the hydraulic ram.
Front RHS brake rebuilt less drum & shoes which are in route.
Over 100 mixed driving miles put on the truck this weekend. T-case seal not leaking, same for the new seals in the trans dog house. Oil pan still good and no leaks there too.
New Boggers in front are nice on the pavement, not as loud and don't wander so much.
With the rebuilt trans linkage shifting is tight and smooth. The old stuff was pretty worn and sloppy.
Fuel tank seems good to go. I was worried about sand in it from the blasting job. We cleaned it out real well though. I have a bunch of spare fuel filters on hand just in case but so far so good. We replaced all the gaskets in the tank, all the large hoses and all the fuel + vent lines. It also got a new drain plug. There was no "red death" inside the tanks, no coating at all actually. It was all clean, beautiful inside, meaning like new and I was very happy to see this. Also filled it to the rim and not a single drop of fuel leaked, no more gas stink in the cab too!
Got a bunch more parts in route, dizzy cap, rotor, plugs, steering box rebuild kit, wiper motor, new shocks and more.
Cheers

Short video of having fun in the Warn Pinz. I don't know how to embed video's here on this forum so just follow the link.

I gave my friends son (5yrs old) a good ride in the truck while playing in the gravel pit. He loves the truck! Things like that make owning a Pinz pretty cool.

Re: The Warn Pinzgauer
Got my dizzy all R&R today. See here for details; viewforum.php?f=12
It cleaned up real nicely once I had it out. Just some careful cleaning with the scotch bright and wire brush on the die grinder. Started putting in my new shocks, got both fronts in today. They are a touch shorter then the Rancho 9000s, which is perhaps a good thing. One of the front Ranchos is good but the other is toast. I know nearly all four rears are bad since we had them out a week ago. The Doetsch shocks I got from EI look nice and beefy. The welds on them is kind of a disappointment and the spacers are roughly cut, ie not a nice even cut. But for the price I really can't complain and am sure they will ride nice. They have a beefy shaft, at least a 1/3 larger than the old Ranchos. I also like the bump stop on them.

Re: The Warn Pinzgauer
Had fun for a Sunday and not driving the Pinz...

Had leakage into my rearmost RHS boot last weekend so decided to pull the axle and deal with it right. Also R&R'ing the e-brake. Super easy to get the axle out. With an engine hoist through the rear floor access it only took a few hours going at it slow. E-brake is off the axle and looks ok, pads are all cracked but lot's of meat in them. Disc looks ok too. New parts going in.
Cheers

Re: The Warn Pinzgauer
Didn't you just have those wheel drive units off the day before to replace the axle boots?
Why didn't you coordinated both repairs, since you already had the wheel drives off? I'd think it'd save some time. :?:
Just curious...

We were pushing hard last weekend to get the truck done for the trip up to the Morrison Jeep Trail, which is 4hrs north of me near the Montana border. We didn't get the truck done in time for that trip but still all wanted to go out and do some off-roading and camping. So we slapped it back together and made sure things were full of oil. On top of this everything I am reading here on the forum says pull the diff to fix the leak right. A few posts here and there about doing it in the truck but most say split the diff to fix the leak. In addition I have the e-brake not working. Seemed easiest to simply pull the diff to do the e-brake and fix the leak. It will also allow me to split the diff center and see what condition it is in. And believe it or not, I actually enjoy working on the truck, it is fun to me! With the right tools, everything so far has been easy to do. Well, that seized bolt was a pita but the right press and it came out fine.
