asl led tail lights with reused brackets

Post by 2012 »

edit: waitaminute - i fully apologize and take back my amusement toward ground lights, realizing the awesome utility possible during some night driving, especially backing. i really thought mike was trying to be funny with photoshop. ok then... one more thing i gotta do... there are some led wizards where i work (alcon lasik machines use bright leds for eye illumination during surgery) - i need to get educated.

back on topic, here's my new asl tail lights i installed today thru a blitzkrieg of 'squitos, rain and lightning. they're held to the black anodized, welded aluminum sheet metal bkt's (skycraft - $1 each) with a couple short fillets of jb weld "industro weld" on the back. very easy to do and totally nasa certified:

If anyone's interested, I found these in my LED search as well...

http://tinyurl.com/l8rgh

They have rear AND side LED's, a very "Pinz" looking mount, and at $79 for the PAIR, the price is right.

The only thing I would change is to have them powder coated.
The guy who makes them seems nice enough, so who knows? Maybe he'd do that for a small fee.

For those of you who do your own fabrication, maybe you could improve on the design and share the results with us...

i took a look at those. you know the american superlights i installed are voltage sensing - work with 24 volts - and come in that 6" oblong standard size, as well as the 4" standard rounds i used. they cost me $20 each at miami star and i wouldn't want them any brighter. they did a nice job on them, as far as reflector/lens/led design goes, aside from the fact that they look like a dang flower.

we need to get the nfo on the spd site changed. it states an electronic flasher is neccessary. as previously stated, the remaining incandescant bulbs in the front provide the impedence reqd to allow the use of the stock flasher.
