Starting truck without breather hoses

Truck started smoking pretty bad while idling. I remembered the last time this happened I removed the 2 black breather hoses and cleaned them . They get that mayonaise looking build up inside. Can I start the truck and let it run without the hoses for 20 minutes or is this bad for the truck. Thanks Zig

I am thinking that the engine may not even run with such a massive vacuum leak. If it does run I don't see a problem, it shouldn't damage anything.
