Remaining fuel at the R mark?

Has anyone actually checked how much fuel they have remaining when the gauge is at the "R" mark?

It seems to vary from truck to truck depending on the condition of the sender, gauge and wiring. When all is working well it is supposed to be about 5 gallons.
