More rust potential to be aware of

The exterior panel, just behind the driver’s door, has a foam gasket and mine must have been holding water. The body tub is fine, but the panel actually built up enough rust that it got through. Ugh.

I’m going to be changing the muffler in a week or 2, so I figured I’d clean up the heat shield. It was covered in rust on both sides. When I pulled it down, a lot of dried mud and some grass fell from between the shield and the body. I cleaned the rust as much as I could and applied rust encapsulater.
Just a warning for anyone else battling rust.
Also, the front has washers to act as spacers. I put a dab of silicone to hold them together and in place while I put the bolts back in.

I've replaced my exhaust heat shield with a custom made aluminum shield
that was 2 years ago, still holding good

I like that it’s one continuous piece.
