I''d like to try to build on the group's experiences to know which states are Pinz-friendly, and which are not-so-friendly when it comes to registration. Please add your experiences.
Ones I know:
Arizona -- sounds pretty open to Pinz registration
California -- No Admittance for 1976 and newer, accepting of 1975 and older (CARB rules)
Colorado -- mostly friendly, but a few counties have emissions regs
Iowa -- friendly
Michigan -- friendly
Minnesota -- friendly
Oregon -- friendly
Texas -- friendly
I'm curious about Vermont

It's been a long time since I imported Pinzgauers and sold them but at that time I recall these states also being relatively easy: NC, SC, GA, NY, MT, VT, OH, NV.
CA is a big gamble these days. The older the better is all I can say about that nightmare of a place. What I've gone through there even with a 100% legal truck.... it would take a book to tell the story. Never again.

I did not have a problem in Indiana but it did take them a while to figure out what to call it.

I don't think 1975 is a safe bet in Ca.. There's always exceptions but in many or probably most cases, they will face issues. Many of the 303s in the US are 1975 and have faced trouble, for example. I know of at least one person who counted on the '75 thing and gave up after a year, having to sell. He could have gone with a Montana tag but didn't for whatever reason.
I spent two years myself getting a 100% Ca. legal Unimog registered in Ca.. The ignorance and lack of inter-agency communication of the gov. employees handling that stuff is jaw-dropping.

Ontario, Canada was able to register. Required an appraisal and they wanted an official weight from a scale. I was able to take in the plate from the inside drivers door listing the unladen weight. Previous registration had it listed as 23,000kg so they wanted proof it was a typo.
Still have to get it to pass a safety inspection but the 10 days with temporary plates were fun.

Wow what horseshit. Time for a Montana title. Then later maybe re-register with no trace of "military" history.

I concur. But by their definition, it is not a "Surplus Military Vehicle" by definition since it was not built for the U.S. Military. This should not apply.

On the dmv.ca.gov WEB site; 1975 or older is exempt.
Even with this ruling it all depends upon the DMV you go to.
I have a 710K 71 and 712 73. The 712 was never registered
before me, it was a Vineyard Princess. I used a 3'rd party
registration services and that went through quickly and no
issues -- the Truck had to be weighted though.
Leno's Law if passed will change everything. Hopefully no
unintended consequences.

I got my California plates. Took less than 30 minutes. They did a Vin check and wanted to see epa stickers.
I had a couple stickers for late 60's vehicles. that did not have a manufacturer on them.
