Has anyone found a good timing light that is sensitive enough to pick up the signal via an inductive pick-up on the OEM shielded wires?

Currently, I remove the #1 wire from the distributor and insert a short section of unshielded wire for my late 1970's Craftsman inductive-pickup light, but I'm looking to invest in a newer timing light and would love it if it could be used without unbolting any wires. I've done a bit of web searching, but I couldn't find a clear winner for this application, so I'm reaching out here since the Pinz is the primary use case.

I just bought an inexpensive analog/digital one for $75 on Amazon. It's nice because it has a digital display which allows me to retard or advance the flash exactly whatever amount I want. So I set the light and then match up the marks exactly on each other. Do a search for "Innova 3568 Digital Timing Light"

Can you confirm that this works with the original (OEM) shielded wires on the Pinz? I ask, because you didn't mention which ignition setup you used it with.

It probably will not work with shielded wires. The military used a special adapter that worked very similar to your hack. I have several of the adapters for US military vehicles but I doubt they fit the Pinz. I can look tomorrow

You could always replace the shielded wire with a standard one just for timing, then swap them back again.

Of course, that's always an option. My intent is to try to avoid opening any connections.
