My axe strap finally gave up the ghost. After searching through the parts book without results, I decided to try building a replacement piece. I cut a short length of 3/8" stretch cord, reinforced the ends with some heat shrink, drilled a hole in each end and mounted it up. So far so good, though it may take a bit of time to truly know how well it holds up.

The nice thing is, it color coordinates nicely with the replacement cord I'm planning for the soft top.

I bought an axe strap assembly from SAV about a month ago due to the same problem. What initially tripped me up was spelling axe. I had no idea that I needed to spell is AX.

Part number 7111831010U / Group 31-10-04 for 30 dollars US.

I have to admit though that your solution is ingenious and has a much more appealing color!

I had the same issue with a broken strap. Took an old bicycle inner tube and cut several 1/2'' wide strips, doubeled them over and put them in place of the broken rubber on the holder. So far works fine and if it breaks I have a lot of inner tube left over to do it again.

My book didn't have that group either. That's why I decided to take a chance with SAV on that being the correct part. No photo available on SAV, but they had a used one available with almost the same part number (and a photo), so I used that to get the new one ordered and in.

Whereabouts on the BI do you live? I've got a couple acres near Mt View that are calling me back louder and louder every year. I'm getting closer to convincing wifey we need to put a winter hootch on the acreage to enjoy Christmas Hawaiian style in our 'upper-middle' age. I wish I'd had my Pinz when I worked at PTA, lotsa old tank trails and such to play on, and I had the credentials to do it.

I live a few miles up the side of Mauna Kea from Papaikou (Hamakua Coast). So far I've seen two 710Ms and two 712Ms on the island. There are so many places to go 4 wheeling here, it's insane. Too bad my Pinz has been down for repairs for the past 6 weeks.

is there a full pinz mechanic on the big island?

If Kurt's 76 is still owned and ran by Kurt, next time you stop in for gas (doesn't everybody near Saddle Road use Kurt's?), give him a shout for Mike. He probobly doesn't remember me but I worked for him for a while. His dad worked for him and was a darn good mechanic, I don't know if he'd touch a pinz though.

This is a little off subject but I found what looks to be a replacement for the Swiss Axe.

Alas, I don't have my Pinz right now (in the shop for upgrades), so I can't measure my axe. This seems about right however.

Yeah, the have a nice Swiss Military PICK as well.
Sportsman's Guide is a great place for Swiss Mil suplus (and other stuff too).

I especially recommend the wool blankets. Very nice, and true to the Swiss attention to detail, each comes stamped with a small metal ID tag.

Anyone know where you might find the correct shovel for a Pinz? Have one that came with the beast but its kinda scruffy looking.
