Wheeling in San Diego

Anyone know of any good areas in San Diego to go wheeling / camping? The best place around (Los Coyotes) is shut down due to idiots trashing the place for too many years, and is now a horse back riding only place. I'm looking for moderate wheeling with good camping where I can take the kids.

Granted...this is not exactly in San Diego, but, I have often gone with a group of off road adventurers, mostly jeeps.

They do go often, to places in the desert and it is a very pleasant bunch of people. They are always interested in the pinz.
The Mogfest coming up in October in Calico is a very kid-friendly enviroment, mogs and pinz people galore. Wheeling and camping combined.
