I am going to replace the tattered lower rubber boot on my shift lever and was wondering how difficult it is to remove the lower linkage so as to be able to pull the shift lever out. (Jeez, the way things are going I am going to have to buy that repair manual!). TIA

Yes, you should buy a service manual as there is info galore inside :!:
The lever comes out the top, not the bottom. The hard part is getting the roll pin out of the pivot pin, for the rest you pull the knob off the lever and start lifting off pieces till you get to the lower boot

Yes, it's a pain in the butt to put back together again. With patience it's not too bad to get the roll pin back into it. I need to do mine again to replace the boot and have been putting it off. It's cooler now so maybe another go.

Thanks guys for the info. I got the parts catalog and it looks like a drift punch and hammer process.
