According to SDP Pinzgauer there is another version of fuel pump you can get at napa that will bolt up. Anyone try these? How did it work out? Heres the link to alt pump:

Just get a rebuild kit from one of the parts dealers, the VW pumps put out less volume of fuel and may cause float bowls to go dry at freeway speeds.
But for an emergency they will suffice as long as you keep speeds below 60 mph

Hey There,
I agree with Jim. I did a rebuild on my fuel pump (ask me why later) and it was nooooo problem at all. Would have taken about 30 minutes total (take-down to reinstall), but I was fussy and cleaned off every bit of old grease so I could take some pictures of the disassembled unit.
I've still got those pics around somewhere if you want to look at em for your rebuild. Or the repair manual has a completely sufficient overview as well.

I have rebuilt it twice. It went out twice. I have buddy who rebuilds pumps for a living that helped me, and it still went out. Is there another option beside spending $337 for a new one from Swiss Army?

Hey There,
Well, here's what I did when I popped a diaphragm...
1) Bought 2 fuel pump repair kits
2) Bought a "salvaged" spare fuel pump
3) Rebuilt both of them
4) Now I have a working one on my truck and a working spare to bolt on if needed.
I think I maybe spent $200 bucks for the whole thing including a refurb pump. Have not had one single problem since then.
So, for you I suppose your options are go with that other VW pump and take your chances. Do another rebuild and hope it works for you this time. Or I suppose I could sell you my spare if you wanted it.
