Dies

When driving my truck it will suddenly die. After everything stops I can usually start it right up again. Sometimes when I do it starts for a moment and dies again. Sometimes if I keep holding the starter button it runs but then dies when I let it off. Any suggestions where to start?

Just I guess, but I would check the ign. wiring to the key. It sounds like a short. Good Luck

Spray a little WD40 or contact cleaner into the key switch to clean the contacts

I had a bad ignition switch that caused it to run only when the starter button was pressed. Found out that the switch contact/ terminal closest to the windshield needed wiggling to get it to work again. When you turn on the switch you should get 24V there.

...also check the wire from the + side of starter to coil under the rubber protector. Mine was hanging on by one strand of the wire and often would not start or not run. Just enough juice going through that one small strand at times. FWIW

Same thing happened to me today - truck suddenly died and would not
restart even though it seemed like it was trying.
Turned out that the Pertronix coil from a civvie ignition conversion had a very
weak and maybe intermittent output. I put the military coil back on and it
fired right up and runs just fine.

I tried to post earlier today and it doesn't look like it came through my apologies if both so up later.
As an FYI the third terminal on the starter button sends 24vdc to the ignition wire post the ballast resistor for a little extra umph when starting. That's why with some ignition issues it will act like it is starting while you are pushing the starter button but then dies when you release the starter.
I recently had to clean all the connections on the ignition switch, starter button, ballast resistor (lug connections inside the can and Molex connector the it connects with), suppressor and terminals on the coil to solve an ignition problem but my symptom was it would start cold but would not restart when it was warm.
