Mysterious Vehicle

I came across the pics of this vehicle while searching for .... "what else" (any new Pinzgauer pics, information etc) ..... and it is intrigues me!

The poster on the Forum said:
"Yugoslavia made a similar vehicle but not a copy it’s called TARA"
(similar = they were talking about Pinzgauers)

First off, I can't find ANY reference to TARA in Janes etc.
Secondly, I'm guessing he "may" have meant TATRA but that's Czech, and that chassis design doesn't quite look right for Tatra.....it's interesting, but.....

Any thoughts?

Ah yes, I see it now. Interesting vehicle. I have never seen one like it so a large question mark is floating above my head!

To me it looks more like a Volvo C202 Laplander or "Valp"

Good find Scott!

If you don't mind photocopying / scanning the info it would be appreciated....Thanks!
I'II send you details in a PM

Armed with the manufacturers name, I quickly/briefly, googled the vehicle and found one additional pic but not much else in the way of significance.

No wonder I couldn't find it in my "older" Janes.
BTW, I recently looked at buying a slightly newer edition, but haven't found one at a suitable price yet
The 2006-2007 Janes: Military Vehicle and Logistics is around $950US while the 2003-4 edition lists for about $550 on Amazon

I'll forward the info. I picked up the 2003/2004 edition new off of Ebay, ran about $300, but well worth it for the referrence. I'm actually on the hunt for some of the older Janes, just have not found many available. They definitely do there homework. A couple of years back we paid for a report on production numbers and deliveries of a specific military truck. The accuracy was incredible, all the way down to the contract prices on the spares contracts that went with the vehicles, and the purchasing contacts at the time!

Cheers.

Scott

G'Day Scott,

There was a local bookshop here in Melbourne that had a couple of 1987 Janes for about $80 Aus some time back .... I can chase it up and see if they are still available if your interested .... or are you after older still?

PS....I signed up on the Janes site some years ago so I could keep informed re the latest military vehicle info, but unfortunately they don't give much away for free :roll

TARA is a genuine product of Former Yugoslavia and has nothing common with TATRA or else.

It might be some 20 years ago when it appeared first time as a prototype. It was of course an attempt to get a replacement for a very expensive Pinzgauer.

At that time the Yugoslav Military forces did sponsored development of such vehicle in all car manufacturing companies.

IMR (Industry of Motors from city of Rakovica) won the competition, but after initial development it seems that production never really started.

It looks that the vehicle vas somewhat revived and the production is again possibile.
