Arrgh. Removed the fuel pump, oil cooler assy, oil filler tube, and dip stick. I cleaned up the block and all associated parts. I replaced every single gaskets and o-ring in all the above assemblies.

I put everything back together and then the truck ran like crap. I checked all the electrical connections, etc. Would not idle at all. Ran fine giving it some gas, but would not idle. Then I fiddled with the adjustments screws on the carbs. Still not idling right.

How do I adjust the carbs? It didn't seem to make any difference where the adjustment screws were. I saw in the manual to adjust them all the way in, the turn them out 2.5 turns. Still didn't mke much difference.

I did turn the idle speed adjustment up till it idled, but still very rough.

When you sync them up do you use the four adjustment screws on the base, or use the idle speed adjustment screws?

Still not sure why doing the work I did (before fiddling with the carbs)would have changed anything?

Ck the connections to your solonoids,(4@base of carbs) How long since it was last run? Did the carbs dry up? If it was a while,perhaps something got gummed up in a carb. Just thoughts...

You have to adjust the linkage and the idle stop screws to sync the carbs. The other screws are, I believe, mixture screws. Good luck. This is why I quit messing with them and drive them. There was no one in my area to put it back together again if I couldn't figure it out. My first pinz got the royal treatment like you are giving this one as far as fixing small leaks, etc. It never ran any better and frequently didn't run at all when I was done "fixing" it so I just drive them now and fix the things that actually stop them from moving. And small seeps and leaks don't bother me much either as long as it doesn't hit the ground I don't worry about it.

I'm starting to figure that out. Fwithitoomuch syndrome. Ran fine today...weird.

Now here's something weird. I tested all the solenoids. They all "clicked" fine. Even checked each connection to be sure they were OK. I started the truck and it ran fine, the I noticed I hadn't connected them. I let it run for a while. Long enough, I thought, to empty the float bowls, and it just kept running. Shouldn't they have cut off the fuel and stalled it?
