Fuel pump operation/assembly

I "think" I figured out where I went wrong assembling the fuel pump that lead to failure. But I want to make sure.

Is this correct: The end of the pump lever that has the cut, the the rod attached to the membrane goes through that cut, so that the lever pulls the rod down when the tappet lifts the other end of the lever?

Also the spring on the other end of the lever, does it go over (around) the little raised protrusion? When I did that, the spring had a funky curve to it that didn't look right.

I usually pay much better attention when I take something apart. Unfortunately this time it just kind of "fell apart".

Kind of surprised how poor the service manual is in regards to the fuel pump. The only diagram shows the upper part.

Yup, the rod does go through the cut in the pump lever.

I had the same problem with the spring. It just sort of came out before I noticed how it was installed, but it does go back butted next to that protrusion, not over it.

There is no diagram nor instructions with the rebuild kit either.

Thanks alot. That's the way I put it together. I guess I just screwed up the little split plastic ring.
