Good afternoon gents. I acquired a new to me ambulance and am having some issues I was hoping to get some feedback on.

* Fuel gauge doesn't work at all.
* Windshield wipers were off, I pulled the switch and then they would not shut off. I pulled a wire off to stop it.

I also had a question about the fuel solenoids. The first three make a minor difference in idling when I pull the power wire off while running. The last one kills it when it has no power. I would kind of assume that they would all affect the running similarily when one was unplugged.

Thanks in advance for any tips. The truck is located about three hours from me but am planning a trip to get it on the 5th (hopefully) and would like to have some ideas before I get there.

When I was fidling with my carbs I disconnected all the solenoids and it still ran. They click fine, but didn't seem to make much difference. I did notice if I shut off the truck, it wouldn't restart with them disconnected.

I got 2 rebuild kits sitting on my toolbox for when I get time. We'll see how bad it runs after that.

The anti diesel solenoids will have a differing effect on the engine depending on how the carbs are adjusted. It sounds like your carbs need to be synced if on solenoid kills and the rest reduced in RPM only. If you hear a click and you hear or see a reduction in rpm when you remove the wire the solenoid is probably working.

The windshield wiper motor has a set of contacts in it that keeps 24v supplied to the motor until it reaches its park position. Some times these get bent so that they do not disengage when it reaches the park position and sometimes they get bent so they never make contact and the wipers stop as soon as you kill the switch. Either way it is annoying. But it is easy to gently reform them to the proper position with a small pair of needle nose pliers. Pop the cover off the back of the motor and with eletric off manually turn the motor around you should be able to see what it is trying to do.

The fuel gage is a little more trouble some to diagnose with out more testing. you should have 24v to one side of the gage and that passes through the gage to the sender which is a variable resistor to ground. some where along the path you have a broken connection???? You can isolate more by disconnecting the wire to the sender and measuring resistance to ground and if you have voltage to the other side of the gage
