Pinz points in the Haf???

To the Hafie experts:

I ordered new points from SAV for pre-'69 Haf. Went to put them in and they're different. So thought maybe I have a later distributor. I looked at the pic of the post-'69 points on SAV's web site and they don't look like that either.

Then I pulled out some old Pinz points and they are identical. Is this right? Does this mean that a Pertronix is possible? Do I have a mutt?

Thanks,

I have the same distributor and I did changed the contact points with Pinz one. Everything works just fine.

Here is the pics I took when I did it.

And the original rotor was changed with a Pinz one too and it fit right in.

I tried to get some infos about it from Jim and Constantin Kiesling. Jim didn't know about it and Constantin never answer my e-mail.

Maybe the swiss army used what they had in the stock room when they did maintenance on their Haflinger...

Yes, that's it. That's exactly what mine looks like. I hope this makes getting a pertronix in there a little easier. Now it's just a 12-volt and 2-cyl issue to work with.

Thanks for that. Now I no I'm not the only one. :D

It appears the Mil dist version parallels The Pinz , Good one to add to the archives. it would take some modification to make a pertonix module work as the pole piece for the Pinz is cut out for 4 lobes and has 4 magnets, and the Haflinger has only 2 lobes and would need only 2 magnets.

Do you think this would be an option?

Pertronix has many kits for 2-cyl applications. Possibly a pole piece to fit another distributor would work? Or maybe with a slight mod?

One of the dealers had a Petronix kit out for the Haf a couple years ago.
When I talked to him last year on it, he said that he had discontinued it because of high failure rate. I don't remember the particulars of the problem, but if he gave up on it, I didn't see a point to go any further.

I think the earlier versions of the modules had problems for all cars. I wonder if that was the same problem or if it was Haf-specific.
