Suggestions for Self Reliance for my Houston based 710M

First, let me offer a big thank you to Vince for establishing this forum. If you haven't contributed $$$, you should because I sense that a lot of people get a lot of value from it and we'd probably all miss it if he couldn't continue to maintain it. (Vince - perhaps YOU should be selling the t-shirts and decals as money makers for the forum?)

As I posted earlier today, I've had my 710M for over a year but had the best (only?) Pinz repair shop in the Houston area about 2 miles from the house so every little hickup could be addressed swiftly and pretty reasonably by dropping it off for them to mess with. That resource is going away so I'm stuck with you guys! Seriously, I would like to get some advice on things like the following:

Oil changes (how frequently, what type of filter and grade of oil folks like)

Gear oil - same question, how frequently, and tricks I should know?

Suggestion on canvas top repairs - specifically, is there a particular adhesive that works best to address a rip? Does anyone out there have a spare square foot +/- of canvas top thay'd be willing to sell me?

Any other recommendation or suggestions on REGULAR service items that I should address on a very regular basis to keep this truck running right?

I'd like to hear from any other Houston / Galveston area Pinz owners as I'm sure there must be a couple of us out there.

Thanks in advance for your assistance. The forum has already be a great resource so I want to learn as much as I can from y'all.

Thanks!

Check the SDP website for a maintenance schedule, also tells you what to look for when buying a pinz. You will also find a cross reference for available parts from Napa. There are links there to other sites for info.
All the oils and grease are in the owners manual.
Get the books from one of the dealers (check with SAV) for parts and the book for shop maintenance it is worth its weight in information. Hopefully you have the owners manual, if not, get one immediately and read and use it faithfully.
There is plenty of wisdom here, dip into the well.
Good luck.

Cheers,
Morris

Just a question or two, what's happened to your service service support there in Houston?

Two - Isnt there any shop in the area capable of providing service for these trucks? They are fairly simple units to service?

Just remember what ever service schedule is printed in the book/SDP site it has to be modified to take account of your operating regimens. I know that many owner use their trucks infrequently and that by itself creates oil drain frequencies out of sync with the book. By and large the average American drives about 10 to 12 K miles per year for a low and 15k for the median average. Do you do the same with your Pinz?

TXpinz,

Yeh i can understand where your coming from we had always thought of the houston shop as a place to take mine when say the clutch blew up or something beyond what we could deal with happend. Unfortunataly I do not know of any other place to take it in texas there is the shop in victoria but I can't say I've had sparkling work done there so I'm guessing if anything major happens it's gona be break out the shop manual or a trailer ride up to Co.

let me say that I am not totally going away. I have had many responses from local folks that still need help from time to time. I will keep my mobile phone on and web site up, and intend to be available for consulting and/or occasional repair assistance as needed.

Several folks have asked if I would do a maintenance & general repair seminar here in Texas. I do want to do this, and am working on putting something together that maybe located in central Texas in the next coming months. More details to follow…

The mobile phone number and web site will continue to be functional. I will be posting an inventory list of all items I do have available for sale. Please bear with me on this, for I just moved out of a 5000 sqft shop this week.

Thanks again for the support, and please don't hesitate to contact me anytime if you need assistance.
