I see a thread concerning Hispanic technical people working in my shop.
You may also have seen that I do not repair Unimogs as of 01/01/08.

My shop is Tri lingual and Spanish is spoken widely. All hispanic staff in my shop are legal residents or native born Americans and bi lingual. The student engineering Mr Maybee was eluding to, is a graduate of DADC (top of his class) and preparing himself as an undergrad at U/Colorado studying engineering. His aspiration is to eventually become a design engineer for GM.

He has left my employ recently after being abused by a customer whilst working on a Unimog for the same innuendo that I have seen in other thread opened by me. For those who do not regularly rub shoulders with Hispanic people, may I say most are very hard working people and contribute to this country contrary to the popular perception seen on this forum and in the press in general

I am lucky to be able to easily grasp languages other than my mother tongue and can speak read and write in Farsi and Arabic for the benefit of my customers. The use of another language is not an advertisement that the speaker is illegal or working for a pittance.

As for employing ex convicts, those that have been incarcerated for an extended period are eligible to extend a tax credit to their employer for their training. My success story on this is not the best at about 70%, unfortunately some cannot stay out of the clutches of the law! However some like two individuals that come to mind have become very successful in life. One is a now lead plant manger for Halliburton in Alaska, the other a skilled welder working for a pipeline company. Yes I do pay them less money than my skilled staff since most need to be trained and sent to college to learn bookwork and learn a whole new way of doing things.

I will use an American term here, "Education is expensive but try ignorance". Unfortunately there are those it seems here in this forum have shown a propensity to be prejudiced demonstrated by the innuendo I have observed. For those of you who drive more modern automobiles may I point out that Mexico is now churning out highly skilled auto techs to diagnose the cars you love to drive. Americans don't want to fix cars they want to sit in offices and tap keys like I am doing now. Annually about 80,000 Americans leave the trade for ever. Be rest assured that in the future the guy who will be fixing your car will be Hispanic and earning more than you.

I find it sad that some of my customers have chosen to their true character by verbally abusing my staff or inferring that they are illegal or not worthy of employment because they have been convicted of a crime like drug use. I am ashamed that my customers can be so narrow minded.
As they say in Lancashire/Yorkshire "there's non so queer as folk"!

p.s. I do not particularly want to read criticism about adopting children that thankfully has been left off these past thread, but if there is some level of derogatory dialogue you all wish to vent lets read it now or hold your peace!

Put a spin on it Dennis would you. The thing is when you put crap on its funny when others do its not. Not sure if you now but Me and half my family are in some sort of construction trade they other half is in the hotel and restaurant. The last time I was on the job site it was about 94% Hispanic ( it was this morning). They all can provide there paper work but I would bet some are still illegal. Hell we just hired one that is name is Eric and speaks very little English around here there the only ones that seem to want to apply for a back breaking job. I don’t mind hanging out with them ether I have gone to the bars with them and dinner as well. I like some of the others are sick of the crap you post. Its funny Venice blocked the last post so you just open another. I for one only believe about fifty percent of what you post. I new that your Hispanic employee was not an illegal he told me he was born here I had about a two hour conversation while I waited on you to complete my pinz, and three other cars at the same time. I had lots of time to kill I think I even had conversations with your Nabors. I for one am just sick of your B.S. post and it looks like other are to Oops no business owner bashing !!!!

I can not see what Dennis has said in this post that is bad. Surely he is a good samaritan offering jobs to poor poeple that need them. Taking on ex jail birds is a very brave an courageous thing to do very few poeple would consider this.

I do not really see what was he said in the other post that was so bad either. I agree that he reported on somthing and posted a lampoon that was distasteful to some. It can not be presumed that the post was removed because of what Dennis said but rather what other poeple thought of it. Perhaps they petitioned the site owner. In any case I think that it was wise of him to remove it because of the hullabaloo.

For most part I like Dennis's posts, the technical ones are excellent and the other stuff is genraly amusing. This guy has been around a lot of places seen and done a lot of interesting stuff. When he writes stuff that appears crass to some one, why are they not a little more forgiving and either just ignore it, and it will go away, or comment in a good mannered fashion.

If it is that they are posted to wind poeple up then why give him the satisfaction of winning which he genraly does on an intellectual score. Reacting the way some do gives him the moral high ground, why look so foolish and react, just ignore writings by him that look provocative, maybe some of you are easy sport and react in a very predictable way.

I do not intend any offence by what I have written here. I am genuinely puzzled by the hue and cry. So come on guys this is a genraly good natured forum lets have some good natured humor.

Seems to me that everyone needs to chill out and remember that this is a forum for the exchanging of ideas and knowledge about Pinzgauers, Haflingers and Volvo C303.

I don't care about religion, politics, gender, sexual preferences, race or country of origin. And I'm not taking sides, other than mine. I want as many knowledgeable people to feel free to post here and share their knowledge about Pinzgauers as possible.

We've already lost some good members with lots of valuable knowledge.

Please check the other crap and banter at the door.
If someone posts something that you don't like ignore the post.
If it’s so offensive or a personal attack let Vince know and let him deal with it.

If you still feel the need to measure and compare body parts do so in P.M.s or emails.

Anthony, that part about dial 2 is something that is becoming a very sore point for a lot of people over here as the Spanish population continues to increase. It is very hard to call someplace here and get an actual human on the line. Mostly it has become an answereing machine which starts out with. "If you would like to continue in English, please press 1" then the voice goes to Spanish and says, "fF you would like to continue in Spanish, press 2." It then continues to drone on in whichever language you have chosen. Very annoying. To quote a famous/infamous Englishman who is over here, most people react to it, "with sixguns blazing", including myself on occassion.

We get something similar in Wales, A country with a small % of Welsh speakers depending on which welsh pressure group one chooses to listen to, yet since Tony B fostered and then allowed a small number of the population to go semi independent or autonomous the world here went mad and millions of £ spent on sign posts first bilingual English first welsh second them more millions pulling them down and spending more millions putting Welsh first English second. The health service is in a mess here petty Assemblies try to reinvent the wheel so political interference with our National Health service denigrates the public service all for some ideology that is not supported by the silent majority. Poeple even have to answer the phone in hospitals here first in Welsh then in English before getting down to business staff can get disciplined if they do not even though less than 25% of the population speak Welsh. It is just that the Nationalists are pushing so hard. Its all small minded politics and it affects every day living adversely.

Nationalism is rife here and has been encouraged by ill advised government strategies.

I do not give a dam what nationality any one is or colour and never even thought of myself as English before living here I was just me. Unfortunitly one is forced to identify with a national group, this is alien to me I do not want to be English and I most certainly do not want to be Welsh.

I can easily see how wars in the Balkans get started it is all prity much pathetic but inevatable.
