Saw my first Pinz yesterday in the flesh (a 6x6). They are smaller than I had imagined. Can't wait to get mine at the end of Feb (4x4 version).

Anyway when I was talking to the fella that had it he said to get the yellow top batteries if you do a lot of winching instead of the red top ones....Does this make any sense to anyone out there.

The Red tops are CCA and the Yellow tops are DEEP CYCLING supposidly.


Minus 40 today...brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr - hope the heater I am getting from Dennis will heat 'er up good or she will be a chilly ride home from Milwaukee.

Any bow hunters out there. I will be in the Denver area for a couple of days while the Pinz gets some work done to her. Wouldn't mind hooking up and shooting with somebody while I'm there. I love riding horses too.

I currently have 2 yellow tops (installed April/May 2007), problem was my Oasis XD 3000 air compressor, run by a 12/24volt winch motor, enough power to fill 34" TSL's in under 2 minutes to 65psi, also enough power to drain lead acid batteries even with the engine running at about 1500 to 2000 rpm, if I didn not drive 2 to 3 hours, so I partially solved the problem with the yellow tops and doing a alternator rebuild to make it 50 to 55 amps, batteries now recover in less than 15 minutes of driving after 10 to 12 miinutes of compressor run time, hopefully you would run a winch about the same or less, also another good option would be a battery equalizer.....

How much winching are you going to do?????? Mostly starting (red top) mostly winching (yellow top). Several years ago the Interstate battery man told us about the drag racer who ran red tops and remember a 1/4 mile car has no alternator. After 1 season the batt was toast. He finally convinced the guy to try a yellow top and it was into the 2nd season. He also related the Hot rodders who had to put in yellow tops and since they were started and driven and recharged the yellow top failed and he finally got them to try red tops with success. So, evaluate Mostly starting or mostly winching.
