On the front and rear of many vehicles I've noticed the large red/white Swiss cross on the aluminum plate that says "Swiss Army", does anyone know where I might obtain the decal or plate, and why do so many vehicles have them, was it original ?

The plates are available from Scott at Expedition Imports and also from Swiss Army Vehicles for about $15 each.
My Pinz came with the signs so I assume they were original equipment but not really sure.

The signs are not original equipment from the Swiss army. Just a cool vanity plate. My 712 sports an Austrian flag.

my 1973 710m came to me with a really weathered austrian crest that took me a trip through the internet to figure out what it was (googled national crests) it looks like a cross between a turkey and an eagle with a hammer in one tallon and a sickle in the other there is a broken set of shaclkles on the legs

mine is the second one. the smaller one.ya im told im one of them cold country aussies.(not the warm counrty ones the ones from austria) my people came to flagstaff in the mid 80s (1880) i have my grandmothers birth cert. in german from the town of flagstaff az. my crest ( on the pinz is really faded but still hanging in there. does this mean that my pinz came from austria ,not swiss? i was told that the pinzes from austria were usually rustbuckets. my pinz has 0 rust .
