There's also something called a Bush Winch made in Australia, but methinks you would need the pull pal with that also.

how hard is it to remove after it has been driven three feet in the ground? I would like to get one but i am worried about retriving it after the pinz has been unstuck. I the past i have used tee post and left them in the ground with my tow rope still attched, after the were no longer visable.

Supposedly works like a Danforth anchor. Once you are out pull against it from the other side and it should come loose. I've never had access to one or even seen it in real life.

Leaving t posts in the ground is a good way to blow out a tire or punch a hole in an oil pan. How do you keep from bending them in a U? I can put a bend in one by hand if one end is fixed like in the bumper or the holes for the trailer chains on a drawtight trailer hitch.

ordered a pull pal - $500 bucks and the bag for 70 plus shipping isn't cheap, but better than a tow job. Thank god for my internet business to pay for things...next roof rack

Andy, we tied the the tow strap at the bottom tee were the arrow is drove it in the ground two feet at a sharpe angle. after the tee moved ten feet the pinz moved a foot and a half there was no tee above the ground when we were done. it is on my property on the creek bank. so the only one that should get a flat is me i wanted to retreave the tee post and my strap i just was lazy and beat from tring to get un stuck, and i needed to pick up my tree stands still. latter i will go back and hook up the pinz and pull out the tow strap. I have pulled out tees tring to hook up to the fence line that was a learning experance took two weekends to fix. Jer let us know how it works.

We demonstrate these at the Victorian 4WD Show every year (I run the static demo arena) but I can't say I've ever used one in anger in the bush.

When I was in the Flinders Ranges years ago in the Haflinger and I got bogged in deep sand, we ended up burying the spare tyre and then using it as a ground anchor for the winch....that worked well, but it was hot work digging to set and retrieve the wheel/tyre

Most places I've been stuck this or the pull pal might come in handy. I do know that a 710M is not a good anchor for a F-250 Ford diesel 4 X 4 stuck in very soft mud up to the frame on one side. The stuck vehicle just sort of pulled the Pinz forward over moist grass.

I've seen various designs for sale and they vary in price from $375 to $550Aus (atm $1Aus = $0.92US)

I've seen SAR here bury a ski in the snow (perpendicular to the pull) with a line tied to it. Used the line to haul victims out. I've heard of burying the spare tire with a line attached. Alot of work, but beats being stuck in the middle of no where I guess.

G'Day to you too Peter, that seems comprable to what the pull pal thing is going for. I think about one more stuck will have me in the market for one of these portable anchors. I'm very short of trees out here but very long on large sheets of rock under what passes as topsoil. Sometimes it appears that the rocks are floating in mud. Those rocks wouldn't serve very well to hold the anchor.

This is one of those things where you won't know until you buy and try.

As mentioned that's what we did in the FR.
Burried the spare wheel, then ran the winch cable/hook onto a bar that was inside the "curve" of the wheel hub.
Fortunately it was sand so it wasn't that hard to dig

Now that was a trip!.... 3000 km in a Haflinger. What a hoot!
Mind you I was a lot younger then! .....so was the Haffy

There are some nice units that "fold up" into a small package.
I've demo'd them on a showground by pulling them in with a winch and they work OK, but I've never used them in anger...... but at least they would pack into the vehicle better than a lot of the bulkier alternatives.

Peter, like I said, about one more stuck where I have to walk out to the highway hoping to have a cell phone signal and I'll be ready to break and get one.

I'm getting to old and lazy to do that macho stuff. Be a great reason to buy a 24v winch.
