Stuck in 4WD

I was out wheeling with a group of folks from Bakersfield yesterday up through the Sequoia NF ':D'. On the way back my 710 would not come out of 4WD ':('.

I had a problem awhile back where it would take an excessively long time to release but this time I drove about 15 miles on a dirt road and approximately 40 miles home on pavement ':|' and it still wouldn't release. I drove the truck around the block a couple of times this afternoon when I got home from work and it finally came out.

The slow release problem was getting better over time and on the last few off road trips prior to last weekend it was working great releasing in a matter of seconds.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to check first? The slow release problem first developed after I cracked the 4x4 slave cylinder in half from hitting a rock on the trail and replacing it with a used slave cylinder. The parts in the used cylinder looked fine at the time I installed it.

I'm sure it doesn't do the drive train any good running in 4WD on pavement but I'm curious if anyone has ever broken anything doing so?

Thanks,

4x4

Open the bleeder. Flush the hydraulics. Take the fluid reservoir off and dump the crud out before you try to flush it.
