My wife Just gave me a German .5L stein for our 20th, but I can only partially translate the words on it.
Here's what is on it :" Ein Lustig Lied Macht frob Gemut"
I am stuck on "frob Gemut"
Here's what I have so far: "Merrily a song power", my guess is from drink.
Anyone Know?

Euro Pinz has German but in the mean time why don't you use Google.

More like an after dinner mug So I'm getting closer to figuring it out, frob seems to be a small vessel, or small device or extention, and Gemut(umlats over the U) seems to meen mind, nature, disposition, soul, feeling, warm heartedness, people.
Guess it's time to break out those German language CD's again

There it says that "froh gemut" means "happy spirits".

With that I guess your stein says something like "a jolly song makes happy spirits".

We'll see what others come up with.

That sounds right, after putting on some stronger reading glasses I see it does say froh, the H looked like a B

You think you've got problems Jim, I just brought the book "Puch" by Egon Rudolf, and it's ALL in German! .... thankfully it's got lots of pics, and Google has been great, but you still scratch your head at a few of the translations.

The book is fantastic and has some drawings and images of vehicles and versions that one can only salivate over.
How about 1000cc 4 cylinder Haflinger engine, or a mid engined Haffy similar in layout to a Pinzgauer or even a Volkswagen engined Haffy.

There was not quite so much radical thinking in regards to the Pinny, but I quite liked the idea of an 8X8 Pinzgauer, or the tracks on the rear 4 wheels on the 712!

Back in 2005 I was given DAS BUCH VOM UNIMOG. All in German, and if it wasn't for the pictures I would have been lost.

That is the absolute correct translation and - yes - it should read FROH GEMÜT.

I asked a Friend who is from Germany .. his response to me is as follows:

A simple translation for the imprint on the bier stein
is the following:
"A happy song creates a happy feeling and mood."

In the "old days" singing was an important daily
activity, in sports clubs, at work, at home, in the
armed forces, probably also in fire station. Today
singing is mainly observed in the church. It was very
important to set the mood for all activities.

So, stop reading it.... and create a happy feeling!!
