Yeah, he went down the hill. We refused to help him load it, tie it down or in any way assist him. He's a cool guy, but I didn't want to be involved with the load in case something happened.

thanks for your concern Michael! the trip was slow but uneventful... the CHP did not give me a second look but I did turn a few heads along the way.

Mogbaja, yeah, if I was gonna be disrespectful I wouldn't have posted, or gone with "ese" or something derrogatory. I think the Mog will be great down there, but a Pinz would probably have been easier to tow and looked better. Anyway, enjoy it, the pics are nice.

No offense but I'm glad I live on the other end of the country from you. That is one emergency maneuver away from killing folks on the road, or yourself.

Years ago I was in a fun 4WD event where one of the ten or so "requirements" was that you had to do was tow, and then back, a tri-axle semi trailer around a trails course.
We were doing pretty well till we got to the trailer bit .....Did I forget to mention I was in the Haflinger!

I will not take offense, and I do agree with you.

this type of tow will not be a regular practice... BTW, this is a SRT8 with big brembo brakes and wide rubber and stiff polly suspension too, load leveling hitch, all gear rated for the tow.

I stayed totally on the back roads, speed never exceeded 45, and I always maintained more than adequate stopping distance... drives people nuts but speed is the killer, and that is how things get broken too.

the main hazard to us all was those who could not stand to go 10 mph below the posted limit and made unsafe passes.

the crazzy part is that this is a totally legal load in California (and Mexico too), and I would have been legal to run 55mph in Ca and 110kmh in Mx. now that would be criminal!

It can't be legal in the states I wouldn't think. What's the GVW? Even the trailer looks like 2 3500 pound axles. I am sure you had no trailer brakes either. I am glad you didn't kill anyone. You should really think about how you would feel if some one killed your wife or child pulling that thing on a public road. I am glad it worked out but could you live with yourself if it didn't? There is no way I would have let you take that thing that way. You would have gone home mog-less from here. Sorry to sound so harsh but it looks to me that you need to re-evaluate your tow rig.

I agree. I doubt the trailer is rated for that load, since those are only 6-lug axles, and you far exceeded the towing and gross vehicle weight rating of the SRT-8:

Especially considering you were only doing 45mph on back roads, I think you should have hauled the Chrysler back home on the trailer, towed by the Mog. I sincerely hope you at least installed a brake controller for the trailer brakes. I understand that you thought you were being safe since you were doing everything you could to be safe, but the fact remains that what you did was not safe. I'm glad you made it home in once piece and didn't kill anyone in the process. But please, for the sake of everyone else who uses public roads, don't ever do this again!

I don't know where you got your data, I just go by the manufactures specs on the frame, door sticker, tires, etc
Yes, all lights and brakes were hooked up and in excelent condition.
100% legal
I never said legal = safe. I leave that argiument to the engineers and bearucrats
