accelerator pump position

I took my carbs apart to clean and also to find out what jets were installed
as my truck stumbles very badly when trying to pull away from a stop.
1.I installed new accelerator pumps. I believe the manual says pump, piston? Anyway, on the linkage their are 3 positions for the push rod to go in? Which one is the correct one to put it in. If I remember correctly, mine was in the last position out. Also, it seems like the return spring gets in the way of the rod? Anybody have a clear picture to look at.
2.OK, on to the stumbling. I noticed that if I pumped the gas pedal a couple times before takeoff, it would finally get going. Can anybody out their recommend the settings on these carbs? At the moment, I am at sea level, but will be at 7 to 10 thousand during hunting season.

Thanks in Advance, Pinzhunter

If you started to mess with your carbs, then you really need to re-sync them and set the idle speed and mixture

I have found raising the idle speed helps with the hesitation / stumble...
