Keeping the fan belt on

I recently had the bolt loosen up and lost everything while I was driving. I ordered the spare parts from Dennis.

Anyone have a detailed pics of theirs so I can see what I was doing wrong . You see it had loosened up on me a few times and IO tightened it, but it kept coming loose. There isn't anywhere in the manuals that showed me if there is a lock washer on it or not. This all started after I had the alternator re-built and they took it off. Not sure if they put it back together properly after they re-built it.

THe extra spacers were just put on after the adjusting wheel and then the nut...that's all I ever saw

Any help wpuld be great

Sounds like the nut threads went bad. Pretty common failure :o
You should have 6 shims, the pully half, and the nut. The unused shims go under the nut. leve the pulley free to spin as you tighten the belt untill the belt is tight and the pulley is seated. Only then do you secure the pulley with the holding tool while you lock down the nut with the 27mm wrench from the tool kit.

So Jim I have the spare parts - Brent Hougen a fella up here that has one and wating for parts for his M has lent me the parts until mine come in. Would it be a bad thing to put a lock washer on it, just to make sure it didn't come loose again??

No need for a lock washer, just make sure you rotate the shaft/pulley when tightening it, so the "pulley face" pulls-up squarely and directly on the spacers and the belt is evenly dispersed around the pulley diameter.
If the belt is dispersed "off-centre" it stops the pulley sitting flat on the spacers and in this situation, the nut can come loose.
