Leaking oil pretty good. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the timing cover.

Should I replace the rear main seal while I'm in there?

I found some pics on the Yahoo forum that are pretty helpful, but these 2 confuse me.





Never heard of "wetting" a gasket.

This one might be more than I want to try myself.

Any special tools needed?

Those are my images I actually no longer use timing cover gaskets instead, I use Loctite anerobic sealer, and yes, do replace the rear main seal BTW, to wet the gasket, you merely put water on it and let it sit for a few min, but be careful because they can tear easily and you still must use shelacking compound on the engine side only.

What is the glass jar?

Thats not a glass jar, it is the bottom half of a Solo plastic cup used as a seal guide to prevent seal damage during fitting You must pack the back of the seal with vasaline or transjel and fit the cup to the crankshaft. After you slide the timing cover with the seal into place, you remove the cup, tighten the timing cover bolts and install the flywheel and clutch
