Hi,

I just ran into the first event that forced me to send my Pinz to the repair shop... it might be pretty mundane as I am mechanically challenged (and most of today's repairmen have probably last seen carbs when they were being trained), but maybe some of you had the same problem once, or have an idea what it may be.

I used the Pinz last Friday night with no problem. I wanted to start it again Monday morning and there was no idle: as soon as the engine started, the revs went up to about 80% of the maximum without any action on the throttle (so pretty high, and not the kind of revs you want to keep when starting...).

I checked the throttle return spring, throttle control and starter control outside the carbs and everything works as usual. The repair guy had a quick look inside the carbs and the throttle valves seemed to work properly...

Any ideas?

My first guess ... and the key word, here, is "guess" ... would be a pretty good sized vacuum leak.

Actually, that would make sense considering the fact that I have probably driven this Pinz more in the last 6 months than it has been in the 10 years before with its previous owner...

The truck has been properly and professionally maintained before I bought it, but I expect such "surprises" to happen from time to time with components that do not require maintenance replacement failing because of old age. I'll pass this on and revert.

Just to give you the final word on this little issue I had with my engine revving up when starting, without any action from my part:

The repair guy found that a part was loose at the base of the hand throttle, and fixed it in a matter of minutes... unfortunately not in my presence.

There is a bell shaped washer on the hand throttle that can sometimes hold the throttle open if it gets out of place.
