Engine revving up at idle

Hi,
I just ran into the first event that forced me to send my Pinz to the repair shop... it might be pretty mundane as I am mechanically challenged
(and most of today's repairmen have probably last seen carbs when they were being trained), but maybe some of you had the same problem once, or have an idea what it may be.
I used the Pinz last Friday night with no problem. I wanted to start it again Monday morning and there was no idle: as soon as the engine started, the revs went up to about 80% of the maximum without any action on the throttle (so pretty high, and not the kind of revs you want to keep when starting...).
I checked the throttle return spring, throttle control and starter control outside the carbs and everything works as usual. The repair guy had a quick look inside the carbs and the throttle valves seemed to work properly...
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Jan
