NICE pic's. :D

The orange Pinzgauer buggy is very interesting....What was the idea behind it?
I think I have seen other pictures of it over the years....how long ago did you build it?
Good to have you on the Forum.

Hello Peter, wel how to make one of the best 4x4 ever made even beter...as you know the pinzgauer(volvo,hummer....)were al build for a reason...the pinz and volvo as a troopcarier but as a real off-roader there are some questions to ask??First a pinz has most of it's weight up front(the front-steer) driver,co driver engine and sometimes a winch or other equipment... and yes driving one of a steep hill can be tricky sometimes as they lift the rear tires quit easy(see picture above) so with that in mind..what if you could change that...bring all it's weight to the middle,i ve took this car(nickname Razorback) up to 55° sideways and it still didn' go over. The other reason was competition...a stock pinz is great off-road but for racing...even then it's to big and has to mutch overhang front and rear, razorback hasn't so taking hills up or down isn't a problem,in fact where most guys have to use their backwinch for lowering them down a hill.... i just drove down(must have seen the look on their faces??).The car was used in the croatia trophy 2003(where vince sweeny crached his 712 the year before?) but needs some more inprovement...the biggest problem...suspension??? for this kind of off-road the original springs and schocks are no good (lost 3 of 4 shocks after 2 days),so now we are going for coil-overs on the new razorback....yes we are going to change the car completly..it's going to be more of a tube bugy making it as light as possible..The car has a total weight of 1800kg and some 200/300 has to come off. What engine/drivetrain conserns...it was all stock 2.5l aircooled pinz, stock carbs, stock ignition...and it all did the job with no problems....but now we will go back to our feul injection that i've build on a 710 of mine,a experiment that worked but needs some more atention(we had the injectors on top of the intakes, where the carbs build on,it will be better if they are directly above the inlet-valve) I think a k-jet is the way to go becouse it has almoust has no electronicks an you can find them everywhere. Now i dont want people to go and cut their pinzies up if you can keep them original than please keep them like that....razorback is a testing car for me what brings me to the next level...2.5l turbocharged. Sorry for my english it's been awile....

Found your web site, the body staying the same on razorback 2? Aren't coil-overs designed for longer travel? How will this improve your problem?

:? The body on razorback 2 wil be diferent,it wil be more of a tube-buggy where the rollcage/boddy/shock mountings are all in one frame ,razorback 1 used a part off the original pinz frame that was cut down to the size we wanted...on top off this new frame came the 5mm thick alloy body and on(in) this boddy the roll-cage was mounted.so now this will hoopfully result in a better/stronger but most off all lighter car.Coilovers...well you can do almost everything with them, eazy mounting,in/out going trevel rate adjustible and they are not heating up so fast than normal shock absorbers do .Remember razorback 1 used even all the original springs(front and rear)and the original shocks and thats what gave us problems during that race....so now we want the car to adjust that it respons on the terain and be better(softer) in riding it .We broke 2 half-shafts of the rear axel's ,they both broke where that big security screw bolt's in so we are going to make them stronger.Razorback 2 will use the same drivetrain(gearbox,engiene,hi-lo transfercase) than razorback 1 .We will also take a look at the breaks anb probebly change them into disc breaks together with the handbreak.

Ka you couldn't own one if he was. More than likely it couldn't be imported.

 Well i had some plans to build these in a way that you only needed to take the boddy off a normal 710m or k and put a razorbackbody on top off the standing drivetrain, but things need to be changed....brakelines,steering,the hydrolics for the lockers and 4x4 ,so it's not so eazy but gives you a verry diferend pinz and it's off-road way better than standard. But no i just wanted to show that it's possible to build something different than what is known by pinzgauer owners as a normal truck....it takes some work, but can be done.It took about a year to build R1 and it will take a other year to complete R2 but it will be better an even simpler. My goal is to build a car that has the capebiletys of a unimog, the size and weight of a suzuki samurai and the peformance of a rally car....but still if you can keep a pinz original....than keep it that way....but if you have a drivetrain standing somewhere or a pinz that had a big crash(roled over a few times)..or is realy realy rusty ond you can't repair it.....maybe razerback is your answer???
