real diff lock light toast?

my rear diff lock light is out! does that mean the diff isn't working or... the light is just toast?

Could be the light (globe), or the wiring, or the switch etc ......... or the diff lock might not be engaging
Chances are, it is electrical rather than mechanical.
I guess you've got some checking to do!

thx peter. actually the sun just came out so i can go drive it right now and see if it's locking....

Check the connection where the wire goes into the diff. Also check back along the wire from the diff a few inches where there is a connector. It gets cruddy and corroded. Mine were sketchy. I cleaned up both those connections and haven't had problems since.

that sounds reasonable. it was right after wheeling it up a hill made of lose dirt.
