I just finished a 2 1/2 year restoration on my 712M Pinz(formerly an ambulance) and want to get it something for Christmas. In looking at the Hi-Lift site, there appears to be three different jacks, extreme, cast/ steel, and cast/cast. Is there any one better than another for recovery and generally lifting duties?

What are the preferred accessories?

Where is the best/ most reasonable place to buy one?

I bought mine at Four Wheel Parts (formerly Four Wheel Parts Wholesalers) but I don't recall which model I went with. FYI, I mounted mine to the underside of the rear rollbar.

I have carried a Hi-lift with me in the Pinny for over 10+ years and have never used it.... finally took it out about 6 months ago.

I generally use the normal road jack for changing tyres and the winch (either Warn, or the big or small Tirfor etc) for getting us out of trouble.

If we are in the bush when we need to change the tyre I usually just find an appropriate embankment, log or rut to lift the specific wheel.

Hi-lifts are handy on stuff like Landies and some Jeeps that have rock rails and flat bumpers to jack off... I carry a hi-lift in my 90 for that reason... but I have to say I'm a bit unsure how helpful it would be in relation to a Pinz, due to relatively few useful jacking points? Or am I missing something?!?

The lip under the rub rails works quite well. In fact I lift my Pinz by that area with my above ground lift. A 4 ft hi-lift is too short to work safely.

I wish I could say that I've never need it!

I used to have a cast version of the Hi-Lift jack but replaced it with the normal steel version. I had been using the jack as a winch trying to retreive my 4x4 and broke both the lifting tongue and top loop off . I've had no trouble doing the same with the normal steel version.

Yes I am!! Mike Fodor has really been making fun of me because it hasn't been dirty yet. I should probably just go ahead and put the first scratch on it and get it over with. I am waiting on a gentlemen to free up his time to help me fab an exo skelton and winch bumber for me. I have a 24V 12K Warn winch just waiting it's turn to be installed!!! I am so excited!!!
