What is the story on the overdrive gearboxes I have seen listed? Are they 716 boxes? Or a few gears from some else? Thanks.

It's the T.D. transmission gear box doesn't match the power band of the 2.5l engine. I would like to play around with it but he requires you to send in your transmission.

Hi Vince
If it's the same one, they were TD trannies
And their gearing is a lot different than the gassers.
716/18 5 speed
1st 4.25
2nd 2.505
3rd 1.48
4th 1.00
5th .747
710/12
1st 5.33
2nd 3.24
3rd 2.04
4th 1.30
5th 1.00
Dave, were have you been ?

You should never have to surrender your trans in exchange for a TD trans.
All that is needed from the original trans to convert a TD trans to fit a Gasser is the trans mounting bracket and studs, and the rubber plug in the shift tower.
The Shift lever has to be reconfigured and it fits, but the ratios suck if used in a 710.
Average cost i've seen em go outright on Ebay over the past 2 years has been, $1600-$3400
Market determins price.
I have one that needs a few gears, but I haven't got the funds to put it back together yet.

Jim, you going to see if it works with your new cam?

No, I like the gears the way they are in my 710M.
I don't find the expense justifiable for my types of driving . I could see putting one in a 710 that never goes off road, but still I would advise against.
I can already cruise at 70mph all day the way my truck is set up. I don't need to go any faster.
Just remember, the Pinz is only a very cool looking enhanced tractor that can both crawl and go on the highway

The simple answer Erik is , first to the typical comment used on this forum
The only dumb question, is an unasked one
There have been a couple of threads here lately that DO qualify as stupid questions, and no way to properly answer without writing a novel. ( surprisingly, you didn't start either of them

)
I am starting to see more intelligence in " Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?".... if it gets any worse here, I might have to resort to watching "TMZ".......
NOOOOOO !
And for Ohio Pinz, if you have a 712, you may consider changing the T case to one from a 710, but don't bother getting a tranny from a TD , you'll screw up your gearing mix. If I hadn't sold my 712 when I did, I would have swapped the TD tranny I had in it back to the stocker

If you had read this, you wouldn't have asked another stupid question!

AND, DO NOT confuse the gearbox with the tranfer case.
