I thought a magazine devoted strictly to cyclocross was pretty unlikely but one actually exists. It is: http://cxmagazine.com/

So last night, I'm at a nearby Barnes & Noble and I spy this magazine: http://www.crawlmag.com/ which is devoted strictly to, what else...rock crawling!?!

I guess if you can imagine doing it, someone will put out a magazine about it! Anyway, for those not afraid to lose some paint by crawling their Pinzgauers, it's a pretty cool magazine. Check it out.

It's devoted to vehicle dependent expedition travel. They have some esoteric articles on traveling in places like the empty quarter of the Sahara and the Australian Outback but there are also more practical articles like reviews of tents, flashlights, portable refrigerators, and other camping gear.

I haven't seen it on any news stands yet so the only way to get it may be through a subscription.

That looks like a very interesting periodical. I suspect many of us, when we get behind that big skinny Pinzgauer wheel, imagine we're heading out on some exotic journey.

If that ever really happens, this looks like a good source for wisdom and advice.

While it may not be be as interesting to the Pinz community as Overland Journal, apparently a new investor group and editorial staff is about to resurrect Crawl Magazine.

I mention it here because I thought it was a very high quality publication, nice paper, interesting articles, great photos etc. From what I've learned recently, it sounds like they're going to be back up and running this fall sometime so if you're interested, be looking for it.

The new Crawl is going to have a pretty tough road ahead with their advertisers and their subscribers. This will be the 3rd time the magazine has been "resurrected" and each time the previous Crawl defaults their have been a lot of people that got the shitty end of the stick. IE.....pay for a subscription that goes bankrupt before ever receiving a copy, then have to pay again with the "New" company, etc.....when talking about subscriptions it is chump change, when talking about print adds it is EXPENSIVE.

I wish them the best as the hard core rock crowd is a good customer base for us on the Unimog portal side......because they break them! Repeatedly! It's amazing what 400-700 HP bouncing on a ledge can do to the parts.

I appreciate your note. When my own subscription suddenly ended (without any issues ever showing up) i began to try and figure what the story was with the magazine. What I've learned since is exactly what you're describing. They stiffed and otherwise disappointed a bunch of people, particular in the Pacific Northwest rock crawling community.

When i posted something about the magazine being back up and running at timbercrawler.com, people just about bit my head off! Holly $hit, they were pissed off and they seemed really pissed off at me for bringing it up.

I just liked the magazine and was pleased to see it was coming back.

Lots of intrigue and drama for a friggin' magazine if I do say so myself....

I've also learned that the guy who owns timbercrawler.com had something to do with the old Crawl Magazine so there's added tension and drama behind tha apparently...
