this is what i got
two black wires----------positive
one grey wire[maybe purple?]------sender
but then there are 4 red wires!two on the left mounting pole and two on the right
and on the back of my new one there is only spots for pos+
neg- and sender? the only thing i can think is that i just reattach the 4 red wires onto the mounting poles? please help. the instructions i got only do not even mention the 4 red wires in the dash are these wires the ground for the dash lights?

Sounds like somebody used red wire for grounding other items.
You would be wise to trace these back to the sources to verify circuit as light brown is the factory color for ground wires.
And once again, those go to the GREEN terminal NOT the case or mounting lugs

The procedure is in the repair manual. You will need an ohm meter.

Hey Jim, I finally bought one of these SAV units and replaced my faulty fuel gauge... it's only been what, 2 years since we tested it out as bad at the Pinz meet?
Haha.
All that said, my wiring was stock so it was pretty easy to swap it in. Sounds like norcal has a different setup.
