Quick question. What are safe pressure for airing down the pinz tires both on stock wheels and on widened wheels. Thanks in advance. I could not easily find the info in the archives. Thanks

I do not go below 18psi for stock (6.5")wheels and 12psi on widened {8"}wheels.
Widened wheels have saftey bead lip, stock do not

Jim is right on, I seem to remember on a outing up to Deep Creek, Bernhard was down around 15psi or so and rolled a bead on one of his tires, I for one never go below 20psi and thats on stock rims, running super swamper TSL radials, though last Janurary I did roll a bead but I had 12 in the back and was comming down the upper rock stairs up on gold mountain, and it was about 20 degrees out, nothing like changing a tire in 20 degree temps with the sun going down, and my bottle jack being down.

All good advice. I stick with 20 psi as a minimum on stock rims with radial Swamper Trxus tires.

20 PSI seems to be a relatively safe pressure.

A couple of years ago, I needed to get my truck in the garage and dropped the pressure down to 10 PSI to move forward in a straight line for about 15 feet. Popped TWO beads moving 15 feet.

michael - what tires were those? on stock rims?

I have installed tubes in all my BFG tyres. Is there the same issue with low pressure (below 20 lbs) on the stock rim? The orig Maloya tyres are not meant to be tubless are they?

I used to air-down the BFG MT's (255-85's) with tubes to 16 psi in the bush, without any problems.....below that and you'd push them off the rims.
Now with bealocks 8 psi isn't a problem!

Thanks for all the advice. I just ran my trucks on John Bull and Gold Mountain and had the pressure at 23. Had no problems (with my tires ), and both trucks performed great. Fun trails those are. Thanks to everyone that chimed in.

That just means you now have to go and find some tougher tracks!

I've done the air down to get into the garage too, took all 6 down to less than 3, I think, well the tire guage didnt register any pressure at all, drove in and my antenna mount cleared the opening by 1/4 inch, I did refill all tires to about 25psi while I left it in the garage while on a 3 week vacation, got home aired down again and backed out, never lost a bead, probably the stronger sidewalls on my super swampers, who knows.

eric - which swampers do you have?

I had always been taught that you shouldn't run tubes in radials,due to the possibility of friction between the tube and tire. Guess that old rule must have been bunk,as many of you guys run tubes...
